Ingredients
  

  • For the Trifle Layers
  • 1 (9x13-inch) chocolate cake or brownies, cut into cubes
  • 30 oz cherry pie filling (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 oz kirsch, cherry brandy, or cherry juice
  • 2 boxes (90g each) instant chocolate pudding, prepared
  • For the Whipped Cream
  • 1.5 cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 2-4 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups whipped topping, thawed (optional alternative)
  • For Garnish
  • fresh cherries
  • shaved chocolate or curls
  • chocolate sprinkles or cocoa powder

Instructions
 

  • Bake and cool your chocolate cake (or use store-bought). Cut into 1-inch cubes. Prepare chocolate pudding and chill until set. Have the cherry pie filling ready to use.
  • Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Keep chilled until ready to assemble.
  • In a trifle bowl, layer half of the cake cubes and drizzle with half the kirsch or cherry juice. Top with half the pudding, half the cherry pie filling, and half the whipped cream. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight). Before serving, top with fresh cherries, chocolate shavings, and a dusting of cocoa or powdered sugar.
