Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup French fried onions
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish or 9x9-inch casserole dish and set aside.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add green beans and blanch for 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain thoroughly and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper; stir until smooth.
  • Add blanched green beans to the mixture and stir gently until evenly coated.
  • Transfer mixture to the prepared dish. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of cheese evenly on top.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until bubbly and golden around the edges. The cheese on top should be melted and lightly browned.
  • Remove from oven and top immediately with French fried onions. Let rest 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Tip: Always add the fried onions after baking for maximum crunch and texture!
