4
cups
fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
1
can (10.5 oz)
cream of mushroom soup
1
cup
shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1/2
cup
milk
1/2
cup
French fried onions
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish or 9x9-inch casserole dish and set aside.
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add green beans and blanch for 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain thoroughly and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper; stir until smooth.
Add blanched green beans to the mixture and stir gently until evenly coated.
Transfer mixture to the prepared dish. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of cheese evenly on top.
Bake for 25–30 minutes or until bubbly and golden around the edges. The cheese on top should be melted and lightly browned.
Remove from oven and top immediately with French fried onions. Let rest 5 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Tip: Always add the fried onions after baking for maximum crunch and texture!
