Equipment

  • 9x5-inch loaf pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (210g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Mix-ins & Toppings
  • 1/2 cup red and green jimmies-style sprinkles
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar, optional for topping
  • extra sprinkles, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or grease with butter or nonstick spray. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  • In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, whisking after each. Stir in vanilla and buttermilk until fully incorporated (the mixture may look slightly curdled—this is normal).
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Gently fold with a spatula just until no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix; a few small lumps are fine.
  • Gently fold in the red and green jimmies sprinkles until evenly distributed. Avoid overmixing to prevent color bleeding.
  • Spread batter evenly into prepared loaf pan. Top with coarse sugar and extra sprinkles if desired. Bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. Serve at room temperature or lightly warmed.

Notes

Use jimmies-style sprinkles (not nonpareils) to prevent color bleeding. Do not overmix the batter for a tender crumb. Wrap cooled loaves in parchment and festive ribbon for a beautiful homemade gift!
