For the Topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats These create the perfect texture.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Packed, for depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted for easy mixing.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To balance sweetness.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until the apples are coated well.
  • Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 8-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.

Mixing the Topping

  • In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and salt. Stir until the mixture is crumbly and holds together when pressed.
  • Spread the topping evenly over the apple filling, ensuring full coverage.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling at the edges.
  • Cool slightly before serving to help the filling thicken.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The unbaked apple crisp can be frozen for up to 3 months. When ready to bake, thaw and add extra baking time if needed. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or Greek yogurt.
