Ingredients
  

  • 8 medium baking apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1.5 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Add raisins if using.
  • Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  • Bake for 40–50 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  • Cool for 20 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For extra depth of flavor, use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. This recipe also works beautifully with frozen apples—just add 10–15 minutes of baking time. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate comfort treat.
