  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened) Softened for easier mixing
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed) Packed to ensure correct sweetness
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder Unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Semi-sweet or milk chocolate
  • 1/2 cup Kraft caramels (chopped) Chopped for easy melting
  • Flaky sea salt (for topping) To enhance sweet flavor

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped caramels until evenly distributed.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each cookie.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers are still soft.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For the chewiest texture, remove the cookies when they're just set, even if slightly underbaked. Consider adding nuts for extra crunch or drizzling melted chocolate over cooled cookies to make them decadent.
