Ingredients
  

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar), sifted
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • food coloring (optional, for festive colors)

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the sweetened condensed milk and softened butter until smooth and creamy (about 2–3 minutes). Ensure there are no butter lumps for the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  • Gradually sift in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed between additions until fully incorporated. The dough should be thick and pull away from the bowl.
  • Mix in the peppermint extract until evenly distributed. For colored mints, divide dough and add food coloring as desired. Fold gently with a spatula until uniform.
  • If the dough feels too soft or sticky, refrigerate it for 10–15 minutes until slightly firm. Skip this step if dough is already easy to handle.
  • Roll small portions of dough into 1-inch balls or press into molds. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart. Optional: Press with a fork for a decorative pattern or flatten slightly for disc-shaped mints.
  • Let the shaped mints sit at room temperature for about 1 hour until firm but soft. They should hold shape without being sticky.
  • Transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 week. For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze according to instructions below.
