Equipment

  • Large pot For melting butter and marshmallows
  • Greased spatula For mixing cereal
  • Wax or parchment paper For cooling brains

Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 10-ounce bag mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 drop each red and green food coloring
  • Strawberry or raspberry dessert sauce, for "blood" drizzle

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a large pot over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until smooth.
  • Remove from heat. Stir in salt. Add 1 drop red food coloring and 1 drop green food coloring to create a pinkish-gray brain color.
  • Stir in Rice Krispies cereal until evenly coated.
  • Let mixture cool for 2–3 minutes. Grease hands, then shape mixture into palm-sized ovals. Use a greased knife handle or finger to press a crease down the center.
  • Place on wax or parchment paper. Drizzle with strawberry or raspberry sauce to look like blood.
  • Allow to cool and firm for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For the most realistic look, use just a tiny drop of red and green food coloring to tint the marshmallow base. Too much will make the color muddy.
