Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Zip-top bag
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup creamy peanut butter (or sunflower butter)
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract (optional)
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup green candy melts
  • 1 cup Lucky Charms marshmallows (charms only)
  • green and gold sprinkles or Mint M&Ms (optional)

Instructions

  • Add the Rice Chex cereal to a very large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Stir in peppermint extract if using.
  • Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently fold until all pieces are evenly coated.
  • Add powdered sugar to a large zip-top bag. Transfer the coated cereal, seal, and shake until fully coated.
  • Melt the green candy melts according to package directions. Drizzle over the puppy chow or toss part of the cereal for a two-tone look.
  • Once set, gently stir in Lucky Charms marshmallows and optional sprinkles or M&Ms. Spread on a baking sheet to cool completely.

Notes

Let the chocolate coating cool completely before adding marshmallows to prevent melting.
